Reference and Adult Services Programming Associate
FT/PT: Part Time
Hours: 19 hours per week including evenings and Saturdays
Salary: $12.00 per hour
Position Description: 
Bridgeview Public Library is looking for an energetic, FUN, customer-service oriented person for Adult Programming in the Reference Department. Duties include researching events, contacting and booking talent, facilitating any in-house original programming, marketing, publicity and cross-departmental communication and scheduling regarding programs, and covering the Reference Desk when needed.

Bachelor’s Degree required.

Previous work in Library Programming, Party Planning, Meeting Planning or PR and Marketing is highly desired and will also be considered.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Create and implement a regular schedule of adult programs and events averaging 2-4 programs per month.
  • Research, make contact and negotiate with potential program presenters and performers.
  • Lead several programs each month, including obtaining and preparing all necessary materials.
  • Maintain a host of ongoing programs, including book club, while introducing new programs and special events that respond to customer and community demand.
  • Coordinate programs to work into library initiatives, departmental objectives, and community events.
  • Assist presenter(s), and ensure that both the presenter and patrons have a pleasant experience.
  • Employ various strategies and methods to market programs to a broad audience.
  • Submit marketing materials to media outlets, write press releases, and maintain press contacts
  • Prepare in-house publicity and upload events onto online events calendar and library website.
  • Attend professional and community meetings, workshops, trainings, and conferences, as requested.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provides reference and reader's advisory guidance to adult and young adult patrons; provides reference and reader's advisory guidance to children, as needed
  • Assists and instructs patrons in using library services, equipment, and facilities
  • Assists in providing interlibrary loan services to adult patrons
  • Performs other duties, as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required.  Excellent computer skills required. Familiarity with SirsiDynix a plus!  Previous experience working with adults and teens desirable.
